Socially Conscious Travel
Socially-conscious traveling represents the way I strive to approach traveling the world. Travel is a privilege which comes with specific responsibilities. The following five principles guide my effort to be a socially-conscious traveler and provide the framework for my travel advice and tips.

- Pre-Trip Research - This includes learning language basics (hello, thank you, please, etc.), communication norms, and social etiquette. It also involves reading local news sources to be aware of current events.
- Supporting Local - It is important to identify local small businesses that demonstrate positive leadership their community. This includes businesses who have giving programs, showcase local artists, or contribute to their community through other innovative, impactful means.
- Be Mindful of Your Environmental Impact - Alternate forms of transportation, including public transportation, bikes, or walking, should be considered when possible. As guests in a community, the physical environment should be taken care of and left better than it was found.
- Have an Open Mind - We have unconscious biases and traveling is a way to identify them and challenge them.
- Be Prepared to Make Mistakes - Mistakes are inevitable. Engaging in socially-conscious travel requires vulnerability and the willingness to continue to show up and remain curious.
